We have 8,000 square feet of space that is perfect for artists, designers, engineers, [[WhatIsAHacker|makers and hackers]], fabbers, scientists, musicians, seminars and workshops, co-working, and a ton of other stuff. We're the perfect place for any project that needs space, involves loud or messy equipment (woodworking, soldering, welding, painting), power (we have 120V, 240V, and 3-phase power), or ventilation for fumes (etching, spray painting, varnish, etc).

More importantly, we have an established community that's growing. There are lots of different groups in Austin, and friends meeting at coffee shops, bars, and homes. If we combine skills, knowledge, ideas, tools, and materials, just imagine the massive projects that could be undertaken! Even if you're not into any of this, but want to learn, there will be some very smart and fun people around to help teach.

Maybe you're just starting out? There are always some smart, fun people around the hackerspace to help you learn something new.

AUGUST 9th, 12-6pm: ATX Hackerspace and Instructables LED Build for All
LED build flashlight.jpg

ATX Hackerspace, with the help of Instructables, is hosting a fun day of experimentation, making, and building with LED's!

Everyone is invited: Adults and Children with Adults! This is an adult-led, family welcoming event where children can learn new skills and have a blast along with adults!

The Instructables team recently inherited 23 boxes of 10mm LEDs (approximately 110,000 LEDs) and decided the best use for them would be a Build Day!! They want to see how EPIC we can get with a large amount of LEDs at our disposal.

They have sent ATX Hackerspace 2200 or more LED's in various colors, and 40 coin cell batteries.

... and ATX Hackerspace has added 1000 more coin cell batteries to the pile for good measure!

We are going to put the LED's and batteries out on tables, and we will have a few soldering stations and solder available, as well as lots of electrical and duct tape.

Bring your creativity and imagination to the tables! The sky is the limit, and we've got plenty of LED's.

We will be showing how to:

  • build LED pendants and throwies using nothing but electrical tape, a battery, and an LED. ( We've had a blue one go for THREE WEEKS nonstop! )
  • solder our HackBat kits ( $5 )
  • turn an LED throwie into an LED glow balloon.
  • make an LED flashlight from some AA batteries, paper, duct tape, and tinfoil.

We will also be helping people document their creations on Instructables, which will help inspire other people around the world on how to make your awesome creations.

More importantly, we are an established and ever-growing community. Imagine what we can do when we combine our skills, knowledge, ideas, tools, and materials . . . or see for yourself at our next Open House, every Tuesday evening from 8-11pm.

Maybe you're just starting out? There are always some smart, fun people around the hackerspace to help you learn something new.
